St. Louis Rams Pass On Derrick Ward, St. Louis Post-Dispatch Passes Along Disapproval In Subhead
There's nothing particularly noteworthy about Derrick Ward not ending up a Ram—there's something particularly brutal about the NFL preseason, during which guys I mistakenly drafted in the second round of my fantasy draft two years ago frequently end up in the UFL—but it is safe to say I've never seen a subhead as blunt and to-the-point as the one that currently sits on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rams hub. In case you miss it:
If I had known this was doable, I would have added some obscenities to our front-page teaser about Pedro Feliz.

St. Louis Cardinals Radio Back To KMOX
West-coasters who miss the sonorous tones of Mike Shannon, Ol' Abner, and John Rooney rejoice! The St. Louis Cardinals' radio broadcast is returning to 1120 AM KMOX after a five year run at KTRS, which was at times so weak I received my hometown Springfield, IL station better in St. Louis.
The Cardinals' move comes after months of station-vs.-station intrigue.

Reds Call Up Aroldis Chapman. Just In Time!
Fresh from supposedly touching 105 miles per hour with his fastball, Aroldis Chapman is set to join the Cincinnati Reds just in time for the St. Louis Cardinals' series against the division leaders later this week.
I'd curse our luck, but Chapman is the perfect combination of incredibly exciting and not particularly effective to appear on the other team. He really might have the hardest fastball in baseball—pour one out here for Stephen Strasburg—but he's walked five batters per nine innings in the relatively pitcher friendly AAA International League to go with his 12 strikeouts per nine. He's been excellent since joining the Louisville bullpen, but though he's already incredibly exciting he isn't yet a sure thing.
I hope the Cardinals see him. I hope they see him extremely well, too.

MLB Draft Update: St. Louis Cardinals First Rounders Take Tentative Minor League Steps
St. Louis Cardinals supplemental first-rounder Tyrell Jenkins's minor league start is characteristic of the kid-glovesy way most of them will be treated, but the Cardinals' 2010 draft class is taking its tentative first steps as the minor league season winds down.
Jenkins, the team's third pick, started for the rookie-level Johnson City Cardinals last night and is on an extremely limited pitch count—the Texas high school star threw two scoreless innings, walking two and striking out one. The Appalachian League closes regular season play today, so his first professional season will end with three scoreless innings pitched over two starts.
Of course, first rounder Zack Cox's season is already over. Sent to the lowest-level Gulf Coast League, which is hardly a league at all, because it ends early enough that the Cardinals won't have to use an option on his Major League contract, Cox hit .400/.471/.467 over the squad's last four games. (They finished 28-28, but I can assure you that not even the players on the team are aware of that; in the GCL, a complex league, games are basically inter-squad scrimmages where score is kept.)
Seth Blair, the 46th overall pick in the draft, likely won't appear in the minor leagues until 2011.
