Save The Date: Jeff Suppan Starts Tuesday

The Cardinals’ probable pitchers calendar has been updated to show Jeff Suppan making his first start Tuesday against the Mariners. He'll be lined up against Ryan Rowland-Smith, a left-hander with decidedly Suppanian peripherals. 

In fact, if Jeff Suppan’s parents had moved to Australia, hyphenated their last names, and forced him to throw junk with his left hand—well, I’m just glad we’ll finally get to see them both in the same place at the same time.

FSN Midwest: "Plan is to sign [Suppan] early next week."

The bullpen session appears to have gone well—the Cardinals plan to put Suppan in the rotation next week.

John Mozeliak: "[Suppan] has to show that he's healthy."

According to Derrick Goold the Cardinals and Suppan have a deal in place, contingent on his delayed bullpen session:

Suppan will throw a bullpen session for Cardinals officials today at Chase Field and he’ll meet with the team’s trainers. The team and its former playoff MVP have an agreement in place, and it will be finalized if they are comfortable that he’s physically capable of pitching — imminently.

“He has to show that he’s healthy,” general manager John Mozeliak said Friday after arriving in Phoenix. “This is not a talent search.”
