Mike MacDougal: Somebody Else Who Throws Really Hard

The Cardinals' newest reliever came into the system in a very inconspicuous way—so unheralded that SB Nation St. Louis broke the story—but his scoreless twelfth inning in his Cardinals debut was anything but. According to BrooksBaseball MacDougal averaged 95.5 with his fastball, peaking around 96, and threw his slider at 88, which earned him one swinging strike.

He showed all the things that make him Mike MacDougal: an extraordinarily hard, moving fastball that gets groundballs, an unhittable slider, and no idea where either is going; five of his 10 pitches were way out of the strikezone. I'd probably rather have Fernando Salas, but MacDougal is an interesting Dave Duncan project.
