Held scoreless through the game's first 20 minutes, the Miami Dolphins put 10 points on the board to close the first half and go into the locker room leading the St. Louis Rams 10-6 at Sun Life Stadium.
The Dolphins opened their scoring on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill to Marlon Moore. That capped a drive that saw Tannehill throw the ball successfully four times to set up the game's first touchdown.
From there, it only got worse for the Rams.
Rams cornerback Jimmy Wilson was unable to handle the ensuing kickoff and Miami running back Marcus Thigpen recovered the fumble for the Dolphins at the St. Louis 25, giving them ideal field position. Defensive end Oliver Vernon was injured on the play and his return is questionable.
Given the chance to extend the lead, the Dolphins could not find their way into the end zone. Kicker Dan Carpenter came on and knocked down a 42-yard field goal to put Miami ahead 10-6.
The Rams scored both of their field goals in the first quarter on two kicks from Greg Zuerlein. His streak of 15 consecutive made attempts came to an end when he missed a 52-yard try early in the second quarter.
