Packers vs. Rams: Aaron Rodgers is great, but Rams keep him sidelined early

Doug Pensinger

Aaron Rodgers was a model of effectiveness in the 1st half of the Green Bay Packers' game vs. the St. Louis Rams. But the Rams have kept him off the field.

When Aaron Rodgers has played, Sunday, he's been everything the Green Bay Packers and his fantasy football owners have come to expect from one of football's best quarterbacks. Fortunately for the Rams, he barely got the chance to play in the first half, as Sam Bradford and company's clock-control offense held him to just 12 minutes on the field as the Packers lead 10-6.

And that's the only reason they lead 7-6. Rodgers is nearly perfect through the half, 13-for-15 for 165 yards and a touchdown to Jordy Nelson, and when he got the ball back with less than a minute remaining in the half following the Rams' second field goal of the afternoon it was only time constraints that kept him from scoring the Packers' second touchdown. (As things stood, Mason Crosby had to take and miss a 58-yard field goal.)

The Rams, surprisingly enough, have managed to stuff the Packers' run game, holding Alex Green to seven carries for 12 yards. But it's their ability to not give the Packers the ball back that has kept the score close after the first two quarters.

Stay tuned to SB Nation St. Louis for more news, fantasy analysis, injury updates, and worries about how frighteningly efficient Aaron Rodgers is.
