Eddie Royal injury could mean Danario Alexander's return vs. Chiefs

Former Rams wide receiver Danario Alexander could make his debut with the Chargers due to injuries in San Diego's wide receiver corps.

Saint Louis Rams fans that happen to be watching the Chiefs-Chargers Thursday Night Football game may notice a familiar face on the field in a Chargers uniform. Danario Alexander, the former Rams oft-injured wide receiver who signed with the Chargers a week ago, may be active due to the status of Chargers receivers Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal. If Meachem and Royal, who are listed as questionable and doubtful respectively, miss Thursday's game, the team will likely allow Alexander to make his debut.

According to Michael Gehiken of the U-T San Diego, the Chargers still have other options, though.

If Meachem and Royal both sit, the Chargers have options.

They could stick with Malcom Floyd, Alexander and Ajirotutu at the position, possibly making rookie Ladarius Green, a fourth tight end, active for the game to compensate. They could also turn to the practice squad and promote Mike Willie, Kashif Moore or Tori Gurley.

In his two seasons with the Rams, Alexander only played in 18 games, eight in his first season and 10 in his second, and had 46 career receptions for 737 yards and three touchdowns. The former Missouri Tiger receiver, standing at 6'5 and weighing in at 217 pounds, would give Philip Rivers a big-bodied receiver to use against an ailing Chiefs team on Thursday night.

Had Alexander been a little more durable, he may still be in a Rams uniform, but now that he's with the Chargers, it will be interesting to see if he can stay on the field as a big-play threat and not on the sidelines with the trainers.
