Blues At Oilers: Blues Look To Continue Road Win Streak In Edmonton

ST. LOUIS, MO - JANUARY 19: T.J. Oshie #74 of the St. Louis Blues looks to take a shot on goal against Nikolai Khabibulin #35 of the Edmonton Oilers at the Scottrade Center on January 19, 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri. The Blues beat the Oilers 1-0. (Photo by Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images)

The Blues've won three games in a row on the road, bringing their away record to 13-13-3. They're playing an Edmonton team with some fight in them, and who've gotten some solid goaltending from Devan Dubnyk.

The Blues've won three games in a row on the road against three pretty hard-fighting opponents. There's nothing more dangerous, however, than a last place team with something to prove -- and that's who the Blues get to go up against tonight. The Edmonton Oilers are in fifth place in the Northwestern Division despite starting the year on a tear. Injuries are a big cause of the drop-off in performance, as is hot goaltending that wained. The Blues, while dealing with their share of injuries (currently Kris Russell, Jamie Langenbrunner, Alex Steen, and Matt D'Agostini are all out) have had the opposite be the case with their starting goalie, Jaroslav Halak .Halak started the year off in a mighty funk, but has continued to amaze with his performances. He's fourth in the league with a 1.93 GAA, and he single-handedly made sure that the Blues won Saturday's game in Winnipeg against the Jets.

Hopefully Halak gets the same kind of support against the Oilers that he got on Monday night against the Flames. Jason Arnott's two power play goals were a welcome sight, especially against Mikka Kipprusoff. The team has bought into the winning by committee concept and proved Monday evening that general manager Doug Armstrong was correct in not making any moves on the trade deadline day. This isn't chemistry that you want to mess with.

Brian Elliott has the better numbers in Edmonton (1.95 v. 3.03 GAA) but so far this road trip Halak has been incredible. He's also played very well against the Oilers this year, which is something potential Edmonton starter Devan Dubnyk can't say for his play against the Blues. He has a 4.67 GAA against the Blues, but since Nikolai Khabibulin has been out for a while with a wonky groin, chances are very high that Dubnyk will be looking for some redemption tonight.
