Thanks to severe thunderstorms that swept across Kiawah Island on Saturday, the third round of the 2012 PGA Championship was suspended, with a handful of golfers forced to finish their rounds Sunday morning. Among those golfers was current leader Rory McIlory, who shot a blistering 5-under in the third round to drop his overall score to 7-under.
McIlroy leads Carl Pettersson, who is in second and three shots back at 4-under. Vijay Singh and Trevor Immelman entered Sunday's action at 4-under, but dropped a shot back to 3-under. Tiger Woods, who entered Saturday with a share of the lead, dropped back to 3-under.

Tiger Woods has been the favorite at every PGA major championship so far in 2012, and heading into the third round of the PGA Championship, he has put himself in good position to make good on those odds. Woods enters Saturday tied atop the leaderboard at 4-under alongside Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson after shooting 1-under in the second round.
Woods, of course, hasn't won a major since 2008, when he defeated Rocco Mediate in a playoff at the U.S. Open. Singh has won three majors, the last of which came at the 2004 PGA Championship, but he hasn't finished in the top 10 of a major since the 2006 U.S. Open. Pettersson has five career PGA tour wins, and has two Top 10 finishes in majors, at the 2006 British Open and the 2008 U.S. Open.

There are just 10 golfers under par after Friday's round, as difficult conditions made good scores rare. Singh's 69 was the day's low round.

Tiger Woods has pushed himself into the top spot on Friday, jumping 13 spots to sole possession of the No. 1 ranking.
Woods landed a pair of birdies -- in Holes no. 2 and No. 4 -- and has hit par on everything else so far. He, however, still has a long way to go before he is in the clear. Having not yet finished the front nine, Woods is hotly pursued by a five-way tie that includes Vijay Singh and Thursday's leader Carl Pettersson.
