Brian Orakpo Injury: Washington Redskins Lose LB For Season Vs. Rams

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan announced today that linebacker Brian Orakpo will be out for the season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle on Sunday against the Rams, according to SB Nation's Hogs Haven.

Orakpo was injured in the first quarter of the 31-28 loss to the Rams and did not return. Orakpo also injured his left shoulder and pectoral muscle in the final game of the season in 2011 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and required surgery in the offseason. Shanahan stated today that the torn muscle is in the same arm as the previous injury, but is in a different spot than the previous tear.

Orakpo, a first-round pick by the Redskins in the 2009 draft, is a two-time Pro Bowler wiith 29.5 career sacks since his rookie season. Orakpo recorded 59 tackles and 9.0 sacks in 2011, in 16 games.

Mike Shanahan stated that Chris Wilson and Rob Jackson will compete for the vacated starting spot.
