Gregg Williams Swears Jonathan Vilma Offered Payout For Brett Favre Knockout

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, now serving an indefinite suspension after being hired by the Saint Louis Rams, said in a sworn affidavit that Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma offered $10,000 to any teammate who knocked Brett Favre out of the 2010 NFC championship game.

The NFL showed Vilma this affidavit as he met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for several hours today. Vilma's season-long suspension was recently tossed out by an appeals board, and the commissioner is meeting with the affected players to potentially modify their punishments.

Williams, meanwhile, will continue to serve his suspension of an undetermined length for his role in the bounty scandal, as the Rams' defensive coaches team up to cover his defensive coordinating duties. Williams seems to be on a soul-searching travel tour, visiting Thailand and Myanmar as recently as this August.

That defense looks to rebound this week as the Rams head to Chicago to play the Bears. The Rams surrendered 31 points last week in a loss to the Washington Redskins.
