MLB Draft 2013 scouting report round-up: OF Clint Frazier

When you hit six home runs in the first seven games of your senior season, people tend to take notice. High schooler Clint Frazier did just that, and is trying to show that he can offer a ton of promise to a team picking in the top 10-15 of the first round. His numbers speak for themselves. He holds the Loganville (Ga.) High School records for runs scored in a season, RBI in a season and career, and home runs in a season. Oh, and he has nearly doubled the school's career home run mark, which was originally set by current Oakland Athletic Brandon Moss. SB Nation's blog Minor League Ball lauds Frazier as a five-tool player who has "a chance to be a star." Though he might eventually outgrow center field, he is in a position now where teams might jump to take him regardless of where he ends up playing in the field.

MLB Draft 2013 scouting report round-up: 3B Colin Moran

Colin Moran has already excelled at the highest level outside of professional baseball, so it should be no surprise if his name is called early in the MLB Draft. He hit .357 and led the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 overall seed, the North Carolina Tar Heels, with 13 home runs in the 2013 regular season. He also scored 69 runs and knocked in 84 runs, both team bests. B.J. Surhoff's nephew appears to have a good eye and bat speed, which could make him a decent power hitter, according to ESPN's Keith Law. He can work the count and hit to all fields. At third, Moran's range isn't going to impress many scouts, but he can field the ball cleanly and make an accurate throw (again according to Law, so his defense might not be a liability. The All-American projects to be a top-10 pick and could even work his way into the top five.

MLB Draft 2013 scouting report round-up: RHP Mark Appel

For the second straight year, Mark Appel is hoping to be the first pick in the MLB Draft, but this time, the right-handed pitcher from Stanford doesn't have another year of eligibility to fall back on. Appel was picked eighth last year, elected to return to school, and emerged once again as a No. 1 possibility in 2013. Opponents hit just .203 off of Appel this year. He displayed elite-level command, striking out 130 batters and walking just 23 in 106 innings pitched. His fastball can reach the high 90s and usually stays around 94-95 mph, so he can blow batters away. Appel also throws a slider and changeup to keep hitters off balance, though he still needs to master the command of his secondary pitches. His tremendous upside makes him a virtual guarantee to be taken in the first two picks.
