A 48-yard field goal from St. Louis Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein got the scoring started, and he added another just a few moments later to put the Rams up 6-0 over the Miami Dolphins after one quarter of play at Sun Life Stadium.
The Rams' first scoring drive came on their first possession of the game when quarterback Sam Bradford was sacked on third down at the Miami 30 yard line. Zuerlein bailed him out, however, with a 48-yard kick to put his team up 3-0.
Bradford finished the first quarter 5-of-10 passing for a total of 93 yards.
St. Louis's second score came about midway through the period as the Rams were closing in on the end zone. Facing a fourth and 13 at the Miami 14, Zuerlein came in again to put the Rams up 6-0, where the score remained for the rest of the quarter. That was Zuerlein's 15th consecutive made field goal – a team record for a rookie.
In the opening quarter, St. Louis racked up 159 yards to just 32 for Miami. Daryl Richardson leads all rushers with 63 yards on four carries.
