Detroit Red Wings At St. Louis Blues Second Period Score: Blues Take 2-1 Lead On Steen Snipe

After finishing their second penalty kill of the game to start the second period, the Blues ramped up the pressure. They’ve controlled the flow of the game since the opening whistle of the period, and Jimmy Howard’s gotten a work out.

The goaltender had to face 18 shots that period, and only let one shot by. Alex Steen had never scored a goal against the Detroit Red Wings. He had five assists, but no goals. He fixed that in the second period. Steen’s wrist shot flew past Howard ten minutes into the period.

The Blues finished the second down a man again thanks to a holding call on Roman Polak. The penalty kill, which is dragging itself out of the basement bit by bit, successfully killed that off as well. Shots, special teams, pressure – everything’s going the Blues’ way. Hopefully that can continue.
