Blues Vs. Sharks: First Period Power Play Gives St. Louis 1-0 Win

The St. Louis Blues (17-9-3, 37 pts) maintained their second-place tie in the Central Division after a narrow, 1-0 victory over the fast-falling San Jose Sharks (15-10-1, 31 pts).

Jaroslav Halak stifled the Sharks' offensive attack, collecting 24 saves and shutting out Logan Couture (3 shots on goal) and Ryane Clowe (3 SOG), while the Blues found just enough offense to confound one of the Western Conference's strongest defenses.

With just a minute remaining in the first period, Justin Braun drew a hooking call against David Perron, giving the Blues their second power play of the evening. As the period ticked down to its final thirty seconds, Perron fed the puck Kevin Shattenkirk who launched a 40-foot wrister to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.

In no small contribution to their success, the Blues managed to foil all six of the Sharks' power play opportunities. With the win, the Blues keep their points tie with the Detroit Red Wings, both second in the Central Division.
