Lance Berkman Wins Comeback Player Of The Year, The Most Passive Aggressive Award In Sports

We at SB Nation St. Louis would like to personally congratulate Lance Berkman on winning the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award, the most passive-aggressive sports award since the NBA discontinued its "Yeah, Nice Going, Man, Really" Award following the 98-99 season. Berkman owes this 2011 award to two seasons—this year, in which he set a career high in OPS+, and last year, in which he hit just .248 and found himself an invisible and unpopular mention of the Yankees down the stretch.

So Lance, really: Congratulations on being great this year, and on being so mediocre last year. I hope you can console yourself with the knowledge that you're not Jacoby Ellsbury, who won the award for being one of the very best players in the American League and also having a series of terrible rib injuries in 2010.

Early favorites for next year's award include everybody who's dealt with crushing disappointment, including but not limited to people who bought large stakes in Netflix, men who've been kicked repeatedly in the testicles, and that guy who bought a regular iPhone 4 like the day before they demoed Siri, like an idiot.
