The St. Louis Cardinals have a whole bunch of money in their pockets left over from missing out on Albert Pujols, and they still need to figure out who will be starting as shortstop for the major league team in 2012. Although the Cardinals had been rumored to be in the mix to sign free agent shortstop Jimmy Rollins, they are now working on a deal with Rafael Furcal, a trade-deadline acquisition that helped propel the team to a 2011 World Series Championship, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports:

Maybe Furcal isn't as glamorous of a signing as Rollins would be, but he likely comes cheaper and has proven he can perform on the big stage.
