Albert Pujols Signing: Marlins Outbid Angels, Los Angeles Signs Pujols Anyway

According to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney, Albert Pujols's new contract with the Los Angeles Angels is worth a total of $254 million over 10 years. The original report of the Pujols signing pegged the contract value somewhere in the $250 to $260 million range.

In total, the contract will be worth about $2 million more than the second biggest contract in sports history (by guaranteed money), signed by Alex Rodriguez and worth near $252 million. The biggest contract in sports history was also signed by Alex Rodriguez when he signed a 10-year, $275 million contract with the New York Yankees.

Interestingly, the the Miami Marlins were willing to help join Rodriguez on that top spot:
