Jess Todd Returns To St. Louis Cardinals, Will Destroy Us All

Jess Todd, former St. Louis Cardinals prospect, Mark DeRosa trading chit, and Future Redbirds meme, has returned to the Cardinals according to reports. Todd is an undersized reliever with a big slider who put together some dominant minor league seasons in the Cardinals' system before going to the Cleveland Indians with Chris Perez in the DeRosa deal. Since then—well, things haven't been good. Todd was waived by the Indians earlier this year, then spent two games in the New York Yankees' AAA fold before being waived again. Memphis will be his third AAA squad of the year.

Todd is not The Destroyer at this point so much as he is minor league depth—since being traded he's been blasted in the Majors in 2009 and 2010 and in the minors in 2011—but if he puts things back together he's likely to see renewed fame among minors-watchers who've grown tired of waiting for Ryan Franklin to figure things out.

Next up on the Cardinals internet-fame reunion tour: Anthony Reyes, still working his way back from injuries in the Indians organization.
