Roy Oswalt's Texas Ranger Visit Offers Chance For Cardinals Fans To Freak Out More

No more than a week ago we St. Louis Cardinals fans had successfully shut down for the Hot Stove League and prepared to see the existing 40-man roster get into the best shape of its life. Then Roy Oswalt rumors got started in a hurry—first the Cardinals made an offer, and then it seemed as though Oswalt were certain to accept it. Now—well, now the Rangers are going to bring Oswalt down for a meeting to judge the veracity of said rumors.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals appear to be ready to trade a player they just spent $2.5 million on, Kyle McClellan, for relief to sign Oswalt. It seems a little sudden—they could have just non-tendered him, after all, if they weren't interested in keeping him around—but I suppose it was hard to imagine Oswalt coming so cheaply when McClellan and fellow St. Louis institution Skip Schumaker were being offered contracts to perform in the general vicinity of replacement level.

Meanwhile: Jake Westbrook has a very confusing few days ahead of him. Maybe he should meet with the Rangers, too.
