Cardinals vs. Giants, 2012 NLCS Game 7: 'Frustrating end to a great season'

Christian Petersen

Despite the elimination of the Cardinals on Monday night, Cardinals bloggers are staying positive about what the 2012 season meant for the team.

With a 9-0 loss to the Giants on Monday night, the Cardinals lost their third consecutive game and were subsequently eliminated from the postseason, while the Giants moved on to the World Series. While the Cardinals did blow the series by allowing three straight wins, tom s. of Viva El Birdos will still remember the 2012 season for the Cardinals as a good one:

This end is a frustrating end to a great season. I'll remember it more fondly than not. The 88-win 2012 Cardinals went further into the postseason than 26 other teams. They went just as far into the postseason as the 2005 Cardinals.

Prior to reaching the postseason, the Cardinals recovered from a 76-70 record to win a National League Wild Card berth by winning 12 of their final 16 games. They also kept their season alive with a win in the Wild Card game over the Braves and rallied from a 6-0 deficit against the Nationals in an elimination game to advance to the NLCS with a 9-7 win.

In what turned out to be the final three games of the 2012 postseason for the Cardinals, they allowed a combined 20 runs while managing to score only one of their own.
