The Cardinals' third baseman hit a tree after he swerved his Range Rover to avoid a deer.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese was unhurt when he crashed his SUV into a tree after swerving to avoid a deer in the road, according to Joel Currier and Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Freese, 29, managed to avoid the deer but was unable to keep his Range Rover from hitting a tree. After two police cars arrived, no ambulance was called and no medical attention was needed for the Cardinals player. Investigators said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Originally drafted by the Padres in 2006, Freese made his MLB debut with the Cardinals in 2009 and has remained with the team during his career in the majors. In 2012, he finished with a .293 batting average with 20 home runs and 79 runs batted in.

The MVP of the 2011 World Series, Freese has had a history of run-ins with the law, including a 2009 arrest that resulted in DWI charges.
