After having Matt Holliday cover the designated hitter spot on Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals have Carlos Beltran taking a day off from playing the field as they face the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. Without any obvious option to DH during the interleague series, the Cardinals have rotated their veteran hitters through the role.

So far, the Cardinals are 4-6 during their extended stretch against AL Central opponents. After finishing the series against Detroit, the Cardinals play three against the Royals before heading to Miami to face the Marlins.
