Cardinals Vs. Marlins Final Score: Miami Halts St. Louis' Winning Streak With 5-3 Victory

The St. Louis Cardinals saw their five-game winning streak snapped as the Miami Marlins avoided a three-game sweep with a 5-3 victory in Marlins Park on Wednesday. The loss drops the Cards to 40-36, while Miami improves to 35-40.

St. Louis scored two runs in the first, which held until Miami tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. While the Cards would add another run in the seventh, Miami responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The Marlins would tack on their final run when Omar Infante ripped a double to deep left to score Greg Dobbs.

St. Louis starter Joe Kelly pitched well, going six innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Catcher Tony Cruz hit a solo homer, his first of the year, in the seventh for St. Louis.

Cardinals Vs. Marlins Score Update: St. Louis, Miami Tied 2-2 After 6 Innings

The St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins are tied up 2-2 after six innings of play on Wednesday night as starter Joe Kelly is in the midst of another solid start. This has been quite the series so far for Kelly, who also hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the tenth inning of the Cardinals' 8-7 victory over the Marlins on Monday.

Over six innings, Kelly has allowed two runs on five hits, striking out three while walking two. Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez has extremely similar numbers so far, as he's pitched six innings, allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

David Freese leads St. Louis on offense with a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the first inning that expanded the Cardinals' initial lead to 2-0. The Marlins managed to tie the game back up with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Cardinals Vs. Marlins Lineups: Yadier Molina Gets Day Off On Wednesday

The St. Louis Cardinals are going for a sweep, but they're giving catcher Yadier Molina a day off as they face the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night. The Cardinals slipped by in the first two games of the series, extending their current win streak to five games.

Molina has homered in three consecutive games, so it's pretty obvious that he's not sitting due to some sort of injury or performance-related issue. This is simply a day off for one of the team's most important players, one that happens to play an exceptionally demanding position. Tony Cruz is starting in Molina's place, batting eighth in the order.

Cardinals Vs. Marlins Final Score: St. Louis' Offense Explodes Early In 5-2 Victory

The St. Louis Cardinals ran their winning streak to five games with a 5-2 road win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The win lifts St. Louis to 40-35, while the struggling Marlins fall to 34-40.

St. Louis scored all five of its runs in the first inning. Carlos Beltran continued his stellar season with an RBI single to center to get the scoring started. Allen Craig would bring home a second run by grounding into a fielder's choice before catcher Yadier Molina's three-run homer made it 5-0 before Miami had a turn to bat.

That was more than enough runs support for starter Kyle Lohse, who allowed four hits and two runs over 7.1 innings to improve to 7-2. Jason Motte nailed down his 16th save of the year to secure the win.

Cardinals Vs. Marlins Preview: St. Louis Aims To Extend Winning Streak On Tuesday

The St. Louis Cardinals have quietly amassed a four-game winning streak -- their longest string of success since a four-game stretch from May 6-9 -- and with a win on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins they would set a new high mark in 2012. St. Louis turns to Kyle Lohse (6-2, 2.85 ERA), while the Marlins will counter with mercurial starter Carlos Zambrano (4-5, 4.01 ERA). The St. Louis Cardinals scored four runs in the ninth inning and two runs in the 10th inning to complete a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night. The victory lifts the Cards to 39-35, while Miami falls to 34-39.

Mike Swinson Suspension: Failed Drug Test Costs Cardinals Prospect 50 Games

St. Louis Cardinals prospect Mike Swinson was suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball on Monday after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Swinson, who was a 12th-round selection of the Cardinals in the 2008 MLB Draft, is currently playing in the Gulf Coast League. In two games played, he's hitting .200 with a home run and two RBI.

In 4+ seasons of minor league baseball, Swinson is hitting .229/.324/.325 with nine homers, 82 RBI and 35 stolen bases.
