Cardinals Vs. Reds Final Score: Reds 5, Cardinals 3

The St. Louis Cardinals weren't able to get the hits when they needed them the most, ultimately leading to a 5-3 loss against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night at the Great American Ballpark.

St. Louis pounded out nine hits but left 11 men-on-base in the defeat. The Cardinals had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, when the Reds starting to slowly plug away at their advantage.

Tommy Frazier hit a solo home run to cut the lead in half before Cincinnati struck for three runs in the home half of the seventh to take the lead for good.

Mat Latos started for the Reds and while he only went five innings, only surrendered two runs. Brandon Phillips had a strong night, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Adam Wainwright didn't pitch up to his standards, allowing four earned runs in just 6.1 innings of work. Wainwright continues to struggle on the year with a 4.62 ERA and a mediocre 7-9 record.

The only Redbirds to have multiple hits were Yadier Molina and Skip Schumaker, who each collected two hits on the evening. Molina's night included a double while Schumaker added his 16th RBI of the campaign.

On Saturday, the Cardinals will try to even up the series with Lance Lynn on the mound against Mike Leake.
