Brewers Vs. Cardinals Final Score: St. Louis Downs Milwaukee, 9-3

The Cardinals got off to a strong start in their weekend series opener against the Brewers on Friday night, defeating Milwaukee 9-3.

Both starting pitchers gave up a lot of hits in just more than five innings of work. For the Red Birds, Joe Kelly gave up three runs (all of them earned) on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Brewers lefty Randy Wolf gave up five earned runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings on the hill.

Wolf actually got the scoring started in this game by hitting a two-run single in the second inning. Norichika Aoki followed that up with an RBI single to give the Brewers an early 3-0 lead.

It was all Cardinals after that. David Freese, Daniel Descalso and Kelly all plated runs for St. Louis in the fourth to give the Cardinals a 4-3 advantage. Then it was Yadier Molina and Rafael Furcal getting in on the party in the sixth inning.

The Cardinals capped everything off with three more runs in the eighth inning for good measure.
