Cardinals Fall To Mets In Series Finale, 6-2

The St. Louis Cardinals could not complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon, losing 6-2 to the New York Mets.

Adam Wainwright was tagged for five runs on eight hits, while issuing two walks in just five innings of work. Wainwright did strike out five on the day, and hit his first home run of the season.

R.A. Dickey picked up his 18th win of the season, limiting St. Louis' offense to just two runs in six and two thirds innings. Dickey scattered eight hits. The knuckleballer struck out five and only walked one batter on the afternoon.

Many regulars in St. Louis' lineup had the day off on Wednesday, as Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina, David Freese and Allen Craig were held out of the starting lineup. Lance Berkman started at first base, making his first start since being activated off the disabled list on Saturday. Berkman went 1-for-4 in the game.

St. Louis fans will now be scoreboard watching tonight, as the Pirates and Dodgers are both in action.

The Cardinals will have an off day on Thursday, before opening up a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
