Cardinals Minor League 1B Alan Ahmady Suspended 50 Games

Major League Baseball announced today St. Louis Cardinals minor league 1B Alan Ahmady will be suspended for 50 games without pay starting next season following a second violation for a drug of abuse.

Ahmady is currently on the roster of the Single-A Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League. His first suspension came in 2010 when he was with the Batavia Muckdogs, a low-A Cardinals affiliate.

He was the Cardinals' 11th round pick out of Fresno State in 2009.

Between three teams in 2012, Ahmady is hitting .292/.389/.445 with five home runs and 46 RBI. Before Palm Beach, he spent time with the Cardinals' rookie team in the Gulf Coast League, and the double-A Springfield Cardinals. He hasn't advanced any higher than that in his career to date.

MLB aslo announced the 50-game suspension of San Francisco Giants minor league catcher Leonardo Rojas after testing positive for metabolites of Nandrolone.
