Sam Bradford Continues St. Louis Rams' Strange Offensive Season

This is how snakebitten the St. Louis Rams' vaunted new offense has been over the first six weeks of the 2011 season: Sam Bradford went 28-for-44 for 321 yards—while Steven Jackson, mind, averaged more than five yards per carry—and the Rams scored exactly three points against the Green Bay Packers on the way to another three-touchdown loss.

Well, all right. Through five games Bradford has already averaged seven yards per attempt twice, which is nice; he did it four times last year, in 16 games, fewer times than he averaged less than five. This year he's averaging exactly six yards per attempt, which leaves him—exactly even with his 2010 numbers.

It's been a strange year for Bradford, who appears to be making progress at exactly the same pace he's regressing in other areas; his completion percentage is down even as he recovers from his disastrously low yards-per-completion Shurmur-stravaganza of 2010. This year, in his quest for being just-about-average, he's gone from Danny Amendola to Danario Alexander in one move.

My only hope is that Josh McDaniels is less confused about the Rams' offensive exploits to date than I am.
