It's a little later in the game than usual, but my college friends and I have once more mustered up the energy to set up a fantasy football league on Yahoo! and worry, thousands of miles apart, about coming up with the perfect team name. There are lots of routes to go with fantasy sports names—the inside joke, the topical reference (get it, because Michael Vick likes to murder dogs), the perennial name, and I've been through all of those before. This year, though, I felt that as the regional editor of a sports website ostensibly by and for fans I had to make it count: I'd go for the Rams-related team pun.
It took me a while—Keith Toston and Michael Hoomanawanui and Fendi Onobun all seem like they're asking to be punned, but it's a fool's gold—but I ended up with "Amendola Bill Yall$", which has the side benefit of reminding certain of my college friends that they were once really into rap-metal.
Now I want to know what I missed. How did you decide on a name? Are you satisfied, or will you be doing some adjustment between now and draft day? Awesome names will be spotlighted in a future Sports of St. Louis post, so that they can be stolen by less interesting people.
