Will Brian Quick be able to help the St. Louis Rams in 2012?

Mike Ehrmann

The St. Louis Rams are working second-round wide receiver Brian Quick into the offense—just very, very slowly. Will he contribute in 2012, or is he their No. 1 receiver of the distant future?

The St. Louis Rams' most talented wide receiver has five receptions in 2012—five receptions in 15 targets. His catch rate of 33% would be the worst in football, if he'd been targeted enough to be eligible. That's the Brian Quick experience in year one, and while the Rams have slowly pushed him into a larger role it's still anybody's guess as to whether he'll contribute in a meaningful way in his rookie season.

At this point it's a season of small milestones. Last Sunday—thanks to the New England Patriots' steamroller offense, which made plenty of room for garbage time—Quick caught passes in consecutive weeks for the first time all year, grabbing a 39-yarder in four targets after managing two receptions for 31 yards against the Green Bay Packers. After beginning the season on the inactive list, Quick is finally seeing time on the field, though Danny Amendola's imminent return might make snaps a little scarcer.

At this rate he just won't have time to crack the rotation, especially with fellow rookie Chris Givens emerging as Sam Bradford's third option. But for every Julio Jones who bursts into stardom immediately, there's a—well, there's an Isaac Bruce, who takes a little longer to grow into his obvious skills.
