St. Louis Rams center Scott Wells could return to practice after breaking his foot in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

St. Louis Rams starting center Scott Wells could return to practice as early as Wednesday, according to a report from Howard Balzer at 590 KFNS The Fan.

Wells was placed on injured reserve with the designation to return after breaking his foot in the Rams' season opener against the Detroit Lions. Wells was unable to practice with the team while on the new injured reserve designation, which forces the player to miss the team's next eight games as they recover from their injury.

Wells has been out of his walking boot since mid-October and told fans on his Twitter feed that this Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers was the game he expected to return to the field.

Wells was the Rams' big offseason acquisition this summer after he signed a four-year contract worth $24 million. Before playing in St. Louis, Wells spent the first eight years of his career with the Green Bay Packers.
