The St. Louis Rams have a very fluid situation at wide receiver heading into the 2012 NFL free agency period, as unrestricted free agent wide receiver Brandon Lloyd has been repeatedly linked to Josh McDaniels and the New England Patriots, but now another name might be added to the confusion. The Rams recently tendered restricted free agent wide receiver Danny Amendola at the second-round level, but Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England suggests the Patriots could pursue Amendola and sign him to an offer sheet.
As a restricted free agent, any team in the NFL can sign Amendola to an offer sheet, but the Rams would have the right to match the offer. If St. Louis elected to let the 26-year old wide receiver leave via an offer sheet deal, they would receive a second round pick as compensation from the successful bidder.
SB Nation's Rams blog, Turf Show Times, recently noted that the team has around $30 million in cap space, so St. Louis could be a force once NFL free agency officially begins at 3:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
