The St. Louis Rams have announced the signing of WR Michael Campbell, according to Jim Thomas of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
Rams have signed WR Mike Campbell of Temple, who attended rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, to a contract.
— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) May 14, 2012
Campbell spent the 2011 NFL season on the New York Jets practice squad after entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent. In four seasons at Temple, Campbell caught 83 passes for 1253 yards and 9 touchdowns.
In his senior season with the Owls, he had 45 receptions for 724 yards and 6 touchdowns. The 6'1", 203 lbs. receiver will have a chance to join the Rams receiving corps that includes veterans WR Danny Amendola, WR Brandon Gibson and rookie WR Brian Quick.

The St. Louis Rams' next step in combating longstanding NFL rumors that they'll be the team to move to Los Angeles began this week, with the team submitting a counterproposal to the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission's original plan, which was offered and rejected back in February. The CVC will review the plan and pass the Edward Jones Dome renovation football back to the Rams after that, continuing a process that could end in arbitration.
I've been on the record this way for a while, but let me do it again: If the Rams expect the city to pay out the nose for renovations on a stadium already financed with public money under the longstanding crock that sports stadiums are anything but enormous boondoggles for the cities that finance them, St. Louis should say thanks but no thanks and enjoy Los Angeles. Maybe a basketball team somewhere needs a home.
I like the Rams a lot, and I'd miss the Greatest Show on Turf when it was gone, but Stan Kroenke already looks a little like an action movie villain; there's no need to actually allow him to hold the city of St. Louis hostage.

The St. Louis Rams surprised football when they selected Isaiah Pead with the last of their three second-round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft, but now it looks like they could see him as more than just a change of pace back. After months of Rams rumors about Trent Richardson, it looks like Pead—an unconventional, third-down type from Cincinnati—could be the St. Louis Rams' running back of the future.
If Pead excels as a rookie, the Rams could have the best of all possible running back succession plans locked up. Steven Jackson, who is famously cranky when forced to share time, can take the 17 carries per game he was strong in last season while Pead catches passes and soaks up Cadillac Williams's playing time; meanwhile, the Rams can work him into more and more situations until he's able to split time with Jackson on a more even basis.
He might not be their third Hall of Famer in a row, but it looks like the Rams are willing to give Pead a shot at joining a line that began with Marshall Faulk back in 1999.
