As the St. Louis Rams trim their roster down to the mandated 53 players, there are also rumors swirling that the team is shopping cornerback Bradley Fletcher. Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the news Saturday morning.
The report gave no indication where Bradley might go or whether a deal was in the works. According to Thomas, the Fletcher news means rookie Trumaine Johnson has earned the third cornerback position on the Rams' depth charts. Thomas also indicated that the Rams would rather not pay Fletcher his $1.2 million base salary to be their number four defensive back.
Fletcher played in only four games last season due to an ACL tear, his second in three years. He recorded 23 tackles and one pass deflected.
The team also announced they've released veteran backup quarterback Kellen Clemens, paving the way for rookie quarterback Austin Davis as the only backup behind Sam Bradford.

St. Louis Rams DT Michael Brockers has a high-ankle sprain, suffered in the first quarter of Thursday's preseason game against the Oakland Raiders. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Brockers could miss the first month of the season. An MRI on Friday confirmed the injury.
Brockers was cut-blocked in the first quarter by a Ravens lineman while chasing down a Baltimore running back, and said on Twitter after the game he was unable to drive his car home. His fiancee confirmed that Brockers was in pain after the game, with the DT wearing a walking boot after suffering the injury.
Brockers was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2012 draft and had been getting rave reviews throughout training camp and the preseason. The injury leaves a big hole along the defensive line for the Rams, as detailed by SBN's Rams blog Turf Show Times:
The LSU product had locked down a starting job next to Kendall Langford. Depth was already a real concern for the Rams, and it will be even more so with Brockers on the shelf. General manager Les Snead said that the team will be looking for help at the position as team make their final round of roster cuts on Friday.
Typically, teams elect to sit their starters in the final preseason game. Head coach Jeff Fisher felt that his starters needed more work to get ready for the season.

The 2012 season will be Sam Bradford's third as a pro and after winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2010, his prospects as a future superstar of the league have dimmed some. While the first three games of the 2012 preseason weren't terrible for Bradford, they didn't inspire a ton of excitement either, but in Week 4 of the preseason he got back on track in a very good way.
Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times called the performance by Bradford "sharp" after the game:
Three touchdowns, 11-for-16, 175 yards, Bradford reminded the weary fans that he is very healthy and very accurate. He mostly had a nice pocket to work with, and his timing was nearly perfect, except for an incomplete to Steve Smith early. He was pressured on the deep ball to Smith, but made a perfect 46-yard strike
Bradford finished the preseason 30-for-51 passing with 398 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. The Rams regular season will kick off on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Detroit against the Lions.

I don't know how it happened, but the St. Louis Rams have managed to leave the 2012 preseason knowing no more or less about Sam Bradford's future than they did going in. His dominant game against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday--11-for-16 with three touchdowns and 175 yards--left him with two great, encouraging performances and two horrific, let's-go-back-in-time-and-draft-Robert-Griffin performances.
One way of organizing these, if you're looking for a little more to hold onto going into the regular season: When Sam Bradford is protected by his offensive line, he looks like Sam Bradford was supposed to look. When Sam Bradford is not protected by his offensive line, you go back in time and draft Robert Griffin.
There's a lot going on, and that's a gross oversimplification. But this is the preseason; it's hard to take anything from it besides gross oversimplifications. If Sam Bradford failed to rebuild fans' confidence in him after his 2011 season took the shine off his superficially better 2010, he also maintained whatever there was left. Which leaves us, heading into the 2012 season, exactly where we were a month ago.

The St. Louis Rams concluded their preseason schedule with a two-touchdown win over Baltimore Thursday night. The Rams scored on a 76-yard interception return by Janoris Jenkins just minutes into the second half. A Greg Zuerlein 59-yard field goal in the fourth quarter ended the scoring for St. Louis. Baltimore managed two touchdown passes from backup quarterback Curtis Painter.
Starting quarterback Sam Bradford, who led the Rams to a 21-0 halftime lead, did not return for the second half. Backup quarterback Austin Davis completed one pass on four attempts for 13 yards. Third-string signal-caller Kellen Clemens went 2/8 for 10 yards and an interception. Isaiah Pead ran 10 times for 58 yards, with Chase Reynolds contributing an additional 48 yards on 8 carries. Steve Smith led the team in receiving with 53 yards on 2 receptions.
The Rams are out of action until next Sunday, when they open the regular season at Detroit. Baltimore will host the Bengals.

The Rams had a scary moment in the first quarter as rookie DT Michael Brockers went down with an apparent ankle injury. He was carted off the field, did not return and no update to his status has been provided.
DE Robert Quinn sacked Ravens QB Tyrod Taylor, forcing and recovering a fumble inside Baltimore's 10-yard line. Bradford hit Amendola with an 8-yard strike two plays later, giving the Rams a 14-0 lead.

Rams rookie DT Michael Brockers went down with an apparent leg injury late in the first quarter of St. Louis's preseason game against Baltimore Thursday.
Brockers appeared to get hit low by Ravens OT Ramon Haregrove as Brockers pursued the ball carrier away from him. Multiple Rams' trainers and head coach Jeff Fisher tended to Brockers on the field.
He eventually was helped up and rode off the field on a cart. There haven't been any updates to the extent of his injury at this point.
St. Louis leads Baltmore 21-0 midway through the second quarter on the speed of three touchdown passes by QB Sam Bradford. He connected with Austin Pettis and Danny Amendola with scores in the first quarter, and Michael Hoomanawanui in the second quarter.
Brockers, the 14th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, was the Rams' target after trading down from the 6th overall pick with Dallas. The Cowboys selected Brockers' teammate at LSU, CB Morris Claiborne.
