Ideally we wouldn't be having conversations like this about a first-rounder, but 2007 draft pick Pete Kozma, most famous for not being Rick Porcello—chosen ten picks after the Cardinals' shortstop—has managed his first good month out of seven in the AA Texas League, hitting .329/.370/.506 with three home runs in May. Yesterday he went 1-3 with a double to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
↵Even his seasonal line—.259/.319/.440 with six home runs—is encouraging after his horrific first experience with AA in 2009. The Cardinals are definitely to blame for rushing him, but at 22 he's still got plenty of time to sort things out. If he can't be Rick Porcello, he might at least turn into Pete Kozma.
