Cardinals Can't Push Brooms, Wainwright Exits After Four

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) – Brandon Morrow pitched eight strong innings, and Vernon Wells slugged a pair of home runs, as Toronto avoided a three-game sweep by the Cardinals with a 5-0 win.

Morrow (5-5) allowed just five hits, walked one and struck out eight. He has alternated wins in losses in all 10 of his decisions this season.

Wells drove in three runs and now has 18 homers on the year. Adam Lind also homered and finished 2-for-4 as the Blue Jays halted a three-game skid.

Adam Wainwright (10-5) had his shortest outing of the year, tagged for five runs — four earned — on six hits in four innings as St. Louis lost for just the second time in six games.
