Free Agent Season At Scottrade Center

As the editor of a St. Louis-centric sports website I am required by any half-decent code of decency to pass along St. Louis Game Time's Sean Gallagher's distillation of the Blues' pitch for free agents this offseason:

Now the Blues are seen as a team on the rise and not just as a rebuilding team on the verge of making the playoffs. Despite some aggressive moves by new GM Doug Armstrong, the well is still quite deep in St. Louis. The opportunity exists to build a team that becomes a dynasty. St. Louis is becoming a place where free agents want to come.

  • There are dollars here.

  • There is a good young team here.

  • There is some sort of crazy-tall Arch here.

  • There is an East Side here.

In short, everything a free agent could want.

I'm hoping that, once the "St. Lou Is" campaign runs its course, Mayor Slay considers replacing it with "St. Louis: There is some sort of crazy-tall Arch here."

The market doesn't open until tomorrow, but Game Time has been covering free agent season in earnest for a few days now; they've got a poll on the topic here, and pro- and con- Ilya Kovalchuk articles, each in depth, ran yesterday.
