It is terrifying to hear John Mozeliak speaking like this about Brad Penny, who was originally slated to miss two weeks when he went on the Disabled List in late May—
↵↵↵“I would say that he will pitch again this season. But eight weeks wrong today it doesn’t serve me well to try and guess again.”

But it’s kind of refreshing to hear Mozeliak admit that he and the Cardinals’ medical staff were wrong. Players have drifted from precautionary DL stays to season-ending injury at a seemingly incredible rate over the last several seasons, most famously Troy Glaus, but with Penny and Lohse Mozeliak has been more outgoing and less likely to consign players and their “nagging injuries” to the 15-day memory hole.
