Kevin Payne Blogs, Teaches Life Lessons

Kevin Payne, SB Nation Rams blog Turf Show Times's resident safety/blogger, checked in yesterday with a story about his football camp, where he tried to instill some other life lessons in addition to the main one, which was, presumably, "get better at football":

It felt so good going back home to Junction City, Arkansas where I was able to -- I think -- I HOPE -- inspire a handful of my hometown's younger generation to leave their personal stamp on the planet with their own passions. I mean, yes -- it was a football camp -- but we wanted everyone to know that it's cool to not only excel in athletics, but - more importantly - school, and life in general.

I'm not about to suggest we go back to the time in the history of journalism when athletes could do no wrong and Babe Ruth's hangover was ascribed to eating too many hot dogs, but there's probably a happy medium between that moment in time and assuming they're all doping thugs. I like that Kevin Payne comes across as idealistic about what he can do as a football player. (And I like even more that he chooses to do it on our blogging network. Ahem.)
