Matt Holliday Trade: One Year Ago Yesterday

One year ago yesterday, the Cardinals traded away their top prospect, wedded themselves to an increased emphasis on minor league development, and made recent trade acquisition Mark DeRosa considerably less useful—that's right, the first anniversary of the hotly debated Matt Holliday trade has now passed.

Aside from that one NLDS play-that-will-not-be-described, things have gone pretty well. Brett Wallace is a full-time first baseman in the Blue Jays organization; Mark DeRosa didn't hit, anyway; oh, and Matt Holliday has hit .326/.399/.564 with 41 doubles, 31 home runs, and 112 RBI in 157 games, about one full season as a Cardinal.

I'm on the fence about the still-rumored Roy Oswalt acquisition, but last year's mortgaging-the-future effort has been an unqualified success.
