The whole story about Ryan Franklin announcing his retirement following the 2011 season near the beginning of the 2010 season was weird enough when he was going to do it, but now, he tells Goold, he probably won't after all.
↵Apparently the new decision is related not to his recent personal business in Oklahoma—even though he was originally retiring for family reasons—but to a discussion with Bruce Sutter, who presumably imparted upon him some secret closer knowledge. Namely: Once you're old, you can't pitch anymore; so pitch until you're old.
↵I'm just guessing, though; I had zero career coach pitch saves, and am therefore not eligible for Closer Knowledge.
