Part three clicked into place yesterday in the ongoing controversy of Ilya Kovalchuk and the New Jersey Devils' hilariously transparent gaming of the NHL's salary cap system, in which he was set to be paid $1 million a year until our dying sun swallows the earth and forces professional hockey to adjust to the perils of Mars gravity. (At which point he will be retained as an earth-gravity consultant.)

SB Nation proper has a look at some of the ramifications of this potential deal. The Blues failed to make a major splash in the free agent market this season, but if they find themselves one marquee piece away next season this could put a crimp in their salary cap adjustments.
