NHL And NHLPA Get Together To Discuss Weather, Ilya Kovalchuk

Ways to know a brewing sports controversy is serious:

  1. Dogfighting is or might be involved.
  2. ↵
  3. Manny Ramirez is or might be involved.
  4. ↵
  5. A players' union and its respective league cooperate on an issue in lieu of grandstanding at the public.
  6. ↵

Part three clicked into place yesterday in the ongoing controversy of Ilya Kovalchuk and the New Jersey Devils' hilariously transparent gaming of the NHL's salary cap system, in which he was set to be paid $1 million a year until our dying sun swallows the earth and forces professional hockey to adjust to the perils of Mars gravity. (At which point he will be retained as an earth-gravity consultant.)
