It’s always nice to see a David Backes interview, and considering the fact that he’s now the captain of the team we should be seeing scads more interviews with the guy. His answers are always well thought through, and this interview’s no different.
↵Backes now has a perspective on head shots, intentional or no, that he didn’t have before last season began considering David Perron’s conk on the head from Joe Thornton. It’s interesting to see him address it from a diplomatic standpoint, in which he calls out players who make it tough for clean hitters to play the game:
↵↵Everyone in the League knows how to hit and do it cleanly. I think there are a few guys that either overextend themselves and let their emotions get a hold of them, or are out there looking to get an edge on an opponent and inflict some pain. The result is a wild, out of control hit; or a well-placed hit that ends up on someone’s head, that results in someone being put out for a long time.
