Missouri Boys High School Basketball Championship: McCluer North Takes Class 5 Title

McCluer North and star guard B.J. Young, bound for the University of Arkansas, won the Class 5 Missouri State basketball championship Saturday, winning 63-53 against Troy Buchanan at Columbia's Mizzou Arena. Young had 21 points and four assists for the Florissant-based Stars, who are celebrating with some serious animated-GIF action and "Stayin' Alive" cribbing at their official homepage. After getting out to an early 31-15 lead the Stars never looked back, finishing off a state run that was turbocharged after their quarterfinal victory over heavily favored Chaminade.

In Class 4 action, undefeated Sikeston took out 21-9 St. Francis Borgia in a 74-55 final to take the championship. Corey Porter scored 24 for the Bulldogs, who shot 60 percent from the field. Senior Ben Ruether scored 16 and blocked three shots to pace the Knights, who rode a 10 game winning streak into battle with an overwhelming Bulldogs squad; they were outscored 38-to-18 in the paint
