Shelby Miller's Dominant AA Start

I hope the Springfield-based St. Louis Cardinals fans out there took my advice when I suggested getting out to Hammons Field and watching number-one prospect Shelby Miller make his high-minors debut in the AA Texas League, because the early results are in and MIller could hardly be more dominant.

Through three starts with the Springfield Cardinals Miller has struck out 22 and walked six in 20 innings, winning two games and putting up an ERA of 1.35. Miller's last outing was his best yet; he went eight shutout innings, striking out eight and walking just two. At 20 years old Miller isn't quite being allowed a full measure of pitches, but it's clear they're starting to allow him to go deep into games where he looks that strong—a major change from last year with low-A Quad Cities, where Miller often seemed bound to four or five inning starts no matter how great he looked.

With 2010 first-rounder Zack Cox also in the lineup for the S-Cards, it's a great time to go to Hammons Field if you like watching top prospects. But at the rate Miller is traveling, I might have to advise Memphis-based Cardinals fans to get out to Autozone Park.
