Steven Jackson could be Dolphins' target with Rams' passing game in disarray

Steven Jackson will take a bigger share of the St. Louis Rams' offense with Danny Amendola out.

Scott Rovak-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Steven Jackson showed signs of life in the St. Louis Rams' Thursday Night Football win against the Arizona Cardinals, and just in time; after Danny Amendola, Sam Bradford's favorite target, left with an injury that could keep him out at least a month. He finished with 76 yards on 18 carries, but his second-half performance looked even stronger. Against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Jackson will have to take an even greater role.

The Rams' passing game was heavily reliant on Amendola; he was responsible for nearly 40 percent of their receiving yards through Week 5. Sam Bradford and company might be able to deal with that eventually, but Amendola had a rough game on Thursday even with him.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins have held opposing running backs to 2.7 yards per carry this year, the lowest rate in football. In one sense, this is great timing; in another, it's about as bad as it gets. Steven Jackson will take on a greater role in the offense in Week 6, because he has to; Sam Bradford will have to adjust to life without Amendola, because there's only so much Jackson will be able to do.
