They aren't a Top 25 team just yet, but the Saint Louis Billikens men's basketball team is garnering respect around the nation, receiving votes in both the AP and coaches Top 25 polls this week.
Saint Louis received eight votes in the coaches poll and 32 in the AP poll, placing them just outside the top 30 in the coaches and right at No. 30 in the AP.
The Billikens opened their season with a 76-59 win over SC-Upstate last Friday. Their only chance to impress voters for the next set of polls comes Wednesday night, when they host Santa Clara. Games against Texas A&M, Southern Illinois and Washington still await Saint Louis for the month of November.
Saint Louis is coming off a 26-8 season last year that saw the Billikens advance all the way to the third round of the NCAA tournament coming out of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Coach Rick Majerus is taking a leave of absence for health reasons, leaving Jim Crews at the helm this year.
