St. Louis Cardinals' Winter Meetings quiet so far, but move could loom Wednesday

The St. Louis Cardinals haven't made any moves through two days of the Winter Meetings, but that could change Wednesday.

Ezra Shaw

Through two days of the 2012 MLB Winter Meetings the St. Louis Cardinals have been little more than the generic third team at the bottom of reports about other teams' trade rumors, but they're a team with needs to fill—their stated one being left-handed reliever, the inferred (and more important one) being the middle infield—and, in Skip Schumaker, a player who's rumored to be on the move. Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch, either by that same inference or because he Knows Something, tweeted as much Tuesday night:

The Cardinals have a lot of holes to fill, and for most of them the potential solutions won't require a protracted negotiation period. I don't have any sources, but it's easy enough to see that they're in a position to make a move during the Winter Meetings, with the low-and-mid-level free agents on the move.
