Rick Majerus No Longer Interested In SMU, Will Stay With St. Louis Billikens

St. Louis Billikens men's basketball coach Rick Majerus received permission from the university to speak with Southern Methodist University athletic director Steve Orsini about the opening at SMU on Wednesday, but according to Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Majerus is no longer interested in position and will stay on with Saint Louis. There were reports that SMU would be willing to pay Majerus around $2 million annually in an effort to rebuild its program, but things never advanced past the initial stage of friendly discussions.

Majerus has built a solid program with the Billikens, and after a 26-8 season in 2011-12 every player will return except Brian Conklin. As for SMU, they are back to the drawing board in their effort to find a replacement after firing Matt Doherty on March 13. The Mustangs are making a move to the Big East Conference and still hoping to find a big name as they transition to a tougher basketball landscape.
