The 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament enters its second day today, and the losers' bracket features four teams, two of which will be going home. The surprise is that one of the teams that will be eliminated will be either the Wichita State Shockers or the Missouri State Bears, who will face each other in the day's second game. The Shockers came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed and the Bears as the No. 2 seed, but both were upset on Tuesday and are now a loss away from elimination.
Another could be the Indiana State Sycamores, the No. 1 overall seed, which was upset on Tuesday by the eighth seeded Creighton Blue Jays. The Sycamores will need to knock off the fifth seeded Evansville Aces early Tuesday morning in order to stay alive in this year's tournament. This is all good news for the Illinois State Redbirds, the No. 4 overall seed, which now improbably finds itself in a winners bracket stuffed with all lower seeds.
Here is today's full schedule, with games taking place in Springfield, Mo:
No. 1 Indiana State Sycamores vs. No. 5 Evansville Aces, 9 a.m.
No. 3 Wichita State Shockers vs. No. 2 Missouri State Bears, 12:30 p.m.
No. 4 Illinois State Redbirds vs. No. 8 Creighton Blue Jays, 4:00 p.m.
No. 6 Southern Illinois Salukis vs. No. 7 Bradley Braves, 7:30 p.m.
